Food and Resource Economics Department (FRED)

FREDFRED departmental programs reflect the diversity of Florida's agriculture which has more than 50 major commodities. The Department has 41 faculty members involved in a full range of research, extension, and teaching programs.

Anne Marie Mattison to Recieve 2011-12 CALS Undergraduate Advising Award for Professional Staff

Mattison We are pleased to announce that our own Anne Marie Mattison has been selected to receive the 2011-12 CALS Undergraduate Advising Award for professional staff. Since joining the department only 2 years ago, Anne Marie has implemented a number of improvements for undergraduate advising in the department, allowing the teaching faculty to spend more quality time with students, and contributed to enhancing our reputation as one of the top agricultural economics undergraduate programs in the U.S. She will be presented with the award by Dean Teri Balser at the CALS Scholarship and Leadership Awards Banquet on April 19, 2012.

Charles Allison Awarded CALS Alumni and Friends Award of Distinction

Allsion Charles Allison earned is bachelor's and master's degrees in FRE in 1978 and 1981, respectively. He has worked for Prudential Financial since 1990, currently serving as managing director for agricultural investments. Allison is a graduate of the Wedgworth Leadership Institute for Agriculture and Natural Resources and has been a memeber of the Food and Resource Economics Advisory Board since its inception. He owns and operates farms in Umatilla, FL; Lake City, FL; and Valley Center, CA, producing cattle, blueberries, avocados and other agricultural commodities. He and his wife Vesna reside in Orlando and have three children. Allison was nominated by Mark McLellan, Ph.D.

Quiz Bowl National Championship!!!

AwardsWe have some happy news to share from Pittsburgh! The Food and Resource Economics Academic Quiz Bowl team won the National Championship title at the AAEA's annual meeting in Pittsburgh, PA! This is the third consecutive year for which UF won the National Championship! For the second year in a row, UF's teams won both first and second place nationally. We are extremely proud of the accomplishments of our Quiz Bowl team and they represented the FRE department and the Gator Nation in a most dignified and professional way. If you see any of them around campus or in your classes, please take a moment and congratulate them!

Awards The Department is actively seeking two full time, 12-month Assistant Professors.

These tenure-accruing positions are based in Gainesville, Florida. Duties include teaching undergraduate and/or graduate courses and developing a research/extension program.
