PhD Program
The PhD program in Food and Resource Economics is designed to provide the student with rigorous training in economics, statistics, and applied quantitative techniques. Each student is exposed to core theory and to fields of specialization with the purpose to prepare the candidate for a professional career in education, government, private business, international agencies, administration, and others.

Prepare for admission to candidacy. This Requires:
- Mastery of the core area and chosen fields of specialization
- Satisfactory progress on research
- Ability to conceptualize problems in Agricultural Economics and appropriate application of quantitative techniques to the solution
Year Four
Research and writing dissertation
Minimum Requirements for Consideration for Admission
- Masters Degree with B or better grade in statistics, calculus I, and graduate level microeconomics, macroeconomics and econometrics
- GRE score of at least 1000 on verbal plus quantitative on old exam or combined score of 300 on the new exam, with at least 145 on the quantitative
- GPA of at least 3.0 in undergraduate junior/senior years and in Masters degree work
Admission if for the fall term only. All materials must be submitted via the online application by February 1 each year.
The applicant pool is extremely competitive, therefore it is highly recommended that applicants exceed the minimum requirements for consideration. It is the policy of the graduate program not to speculate in advance on the possibility of admission or funding.
