G.S. Maddala was my advisor until he passed away on June 4, 1999.
Even though I interacted with him for a relatively amount of time (about a year and a half), I feel he had a deep impact in my professional and general formation.
If you want to learn about his fascinating life and career you can see:
- Just a month before he died, G.S was interviewed by Kajal Lahiri for Econometric Theory. The interview appeared in October 1999. This is a link to the interview.
- G.S. Maddala Obituary, published in Econometric Theory on 1999.
- The following is an essay GS wrote about how he became an econometrician: How I Became an Econometrician.
