Biographical Information

Carmen Carrion Flores joined the department in the fall of 2007. Current research examines the role of environmental policy in spurring environmental research and development expenditures and, in turn, reducing air emissions. In addition, Dr Carrión-Flores is interested the issues that arise from illegal migration from Mexico into the U.S. For example, her work decomposes the effects of the irregular intensity in border enforcement by the U.S. Border Patrol in the part that deters immigrants from crossing the U.S.-Mexico border and the part that only diverts their illegal crossing to other sectors. In the area of regional economics, Dr. Carrion-Flores explores the nature of residential land use conversion in the rural urban interface, as well as the effectiveness of zoning on deterring rural land use conversion.
